Soil Survey

In recent years there is an increased awareness of soil pollution from fuels, oils, heavy metals and additional polluters.  When soil is utilized in a capacity which requires usage of certain hazardous materials, a high potential for soil pollution exists. This is whether the soil is presently used in this capacity or whether it was used in the past. In these sites an historical survey is required to estimate the probability of soil pollution in parts or all of the area. The historical survey is performed in accordance to directives from the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the ASTM protocol.  It includes:

  1. A thorough search of historical documents.
  2. Interviews with current and past land owners, neighbors and relevant authorities (such as business permits).
  3. Visits in the site and the area.
  4. Finding in what capacity the site and its area were previously used and accordingly estimating the potential soil pollution in specific sites.
  5. If there is potential soil pollution, determining the soil analysis needed to find the actual pollution.

The historic al survey is submitted to the proper authorities for approval. After approval, if required, soil analysis is preformed and accordingly the need for soil treatment is determined. Frequently, especially in lager sites, this survey is a first indication of soil pollution and accordingly further soil analysis is performed simultaneously to cleaning or evacuating polluted soil.
